What is AVID?

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college-readiness program designed to prepare students for admission to four-year colleges and universities and to prepare them for a global society. AVID students demonstrate individual determination via:
  • writing for all classes,
  • developing and practicing success strategies,
  • applying for scholarships,
  • investigating and preparing for careers,
  • participating in extracurricular, community service, and leadership activities

​AVID Objectives

  • To provide academic instruction and other support for students and to prepare them for eligibility to four-year colleges and universities
  • To give students college-level entry skills
  • To increase the coping skills of program participants
  • To motivate and support students to seek a college education
  • To increase the participants’ level of career awareness
