What is AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college-readiness program designed to prepare students for admission to four-year colleges and universities and to prepare them for a global society. AVID students demonstrate individual determination via:
- writing for all classes,
- developing and practicing success strategies,
- applying for scholarships,
- investigating and preparing for careers,
- participating in extracurricular, community service, and leadership activities
AVID Objectives
- To provide academic instruction and other support for students and to prepare them for eligibility to four-year colleges and universities
- To give students college-level entry skills
- To increase the coping skills of program participants
- To motivate and support students to seek a college education
- To increase the participants’ level of career awareness
